Tuesday in Roma

This morning we visited the Vatican on a guided tour - thank goodness we had pre-booked tickets because the queue to get in was over a kilometre long. Our guide, Olympia, took us through The Vatican Museum which was AMAZING, filled with opulence and and a fantastic classical sculpture collection as well as the beautiful Sistine Chapel. We then visited St Peters Cathedral to see Michelangelo's Pieta and the immense space of the basilica. Outside the area was still set up with the stage and TV screens for the Pope's Easter address. Tour guides lead their groups with a scarf attached to an antenna - Julie had the chance to call us all to attention.

After lunch at a trattoria near the Vatican we all had the chance to try the best gelato in Rome. Even the teachers and parents couldn't resist!

Walking back from the Vatican, we stopped at Piazza del Popolo which had fountains, a giant obelisk and many street performers including a Michael Jackson impersonator! The girls climbed onto one of the fountains for some fun!

We then walked onto to the Spanish Steps where the rest of Rome seem to be seated!

Here are some wonderful words from Susie and Brie on today's activities:

"Visiting the Vatican Museum was an exciting experience and took our breath away on many occasions, from when we first saw the line to get in to our last glimpse of the building.

After visiting this mesmerising city, we headed off to have a real Italian pizza and gelato. It was nice and so memorable. To conclude our day, we made our way to the Spanish Steps where some of us who had the energy were able to say we climbed all the way to the top!

Over all it was a fabulous day"

Love Susie and Brie
